چکیده

This paper focuses on the scholarship of teaching and the need to implement change in the evaluation practices of post-secondary institutions. The scholarship of teaching is closely linked to the development of instructional technology innovations. The principles underlying teaching excellence are inherent in the effective use of instructional technology innovations. Increasing the value placed upon teaching and learning is a primary concern of a research project called "Peer Review in Instructional Technology Initiatives" (PRITI). PRITI (2000-2002) is a collaborative initiative to develop a peer review model of evaluation, which will be used to assess instructional technological innovations for faculty reward and promotion. One of the deliverables is a set of evaluative criteria and templates to assist institutional academic program review bodies in the evaluation of existing and proposed offerings in distance & distributed learning environments.

Dynamic Obstacle Avoidance by Distributed Algorithm based on Reinforcement Learning (RESEARCH NOTE)

In this paper we focus on the application of reinforcement learning to obstacle avoidance in dynamic Environments in wireless sensor networks. A distributed algorithm based on reinforcement learning is developed for sensor networks to guide mobile robot through the dynamic obstacles. The sensor network models the danger of the area under coverage as obstacles, and has the property of adoption o...

Power, Voice and Democratization: Feminist Pedagogy and Assessment in CMC

Academic Technologies for Learning at the University of Alberta regularly conducts a faculty survey related to the use of, and attitudes towards, the use of learning technologies in both face-to-face and distributed learning environments. The 1999-2000 survey revealed some significant differences in the ways that female and male faculty approached the use of technology in teaching. Subsequently...

Distributed Learning Environments: Pedagogy, implementation, and the early adopter

The widespread interest in network-based learning – partially spurred by the 1993 introduction of the World-Wide Web – has instigated an examination of the underlying structures and assumptions in K-12 and higher education concerning what constitutes sound instruction, and the role that distributed learning environments play in such educational endeavors. What is emerging from such interests is...

Development and implementation of a comprehensive faculty development program in PBL core skills.

Large curricular changes associated with changes in teaching and learning methods should be accompanied by faculty development programs linked to the new pedagogy. This article describes a framework for the development and implementation of a program designed to assist faculty with the transition of the dental curriculum to a problem-based learning (PBL) pedagogy. A faculty committee created a ...

E-learning with Intelligent Agents

Designing Distributed Learning Environments with Intelligent Software Agents discusses a possible solution to this problem. Using agents as an abstraction tool or a metaphor for the design and construction of distance-learning systems provides novel possibilities in delivering user-focused elearning content. Furthermore, the book presents the agent-oriented approach as a way to address the comp...
